Glückstadt detention centre: modern facility for securing deportation
The Glückstadt deportation detention centre, which opened in 2021, is a modern facility with 60 places that serves to secure the deportation of persons required to leave Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hamburg. In the new building, which cost around 28 million euros, each of the three federal states is allocated 20 places. The deportation detention centre was built on the site of a former barracks and offers detainees safe and humane accommodation. Schleswig-Holstein is responsible for the construction and operation of the facility.

High security standards with HSL high-security locks from STUV
To ensure the safety of detainees, staff and the general public, the Glückstadt detention centre has high security standards. All passage doors, cell doors and security doors are equipped with STUV HSL high-security locks. These locks meet the highest security requirements and offer optimum protection against unauthorised access.
Video surveillance provides additional protection. Regular training courses are also organised for staff to teach them how to deal with persons who are required to leave the country.
Modern detention rooms
The detention rooms at the Glückstadt detention centre are modern and offer detainees an appropriate living environment. This includes:
- Private sanitary facilities: Each detention room has its own bathroom with toilet and shower.
- Furnishings: The detention rooms are equipped with a bed, table, chair and cupboard.
- Daylight: All detention rooms have windows with daylight.
- Health and psychological support
Detainees at the Glückstadt detention centre have access to health and psychological care. A doctor and a psychologist are available to assist detainees.
