Glückstadt deportation detention centre: Modern facility for securing deportation
The Glückstadt deportation centre, which will open in 2021, is a modern facility with 60 places that serves to secure the deportation of people from Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hamburg who are required to leave the country. Each of the three federal states is entitled to 20 places in the new building, which cost around 28 million euros. The deportation detention centre was built on the site of a former barracks and offers detainees secure and humane accommodation. Schleswig-Holstein is responsible for the construction and operation of the facility.

High security standards with HSL high-security locks from STUV
To ensure the safety of detainees, staff and the general public, the Glückstadt detention centre has high security standards. All passage doors, detention room doors and airlock doors are fitted with high-security locks of the type HSL from STUV. These locks meet the highest security requirements and offer optimum protection against unauthorised access.
Video surveillance provides further protection. Regular training courses are also organised for staff to train them in dealing with people who are required to leave the country.
Modern equipped detention rooms
The detention rooms in the Glückstadt deportation detention centre are modernly equipped and offer detainees an appropriate living environment. These include
- Private sanitary facilities: Each detention room has its own bathroom with toilet and shower.
- Furnishings: The detention rooms are equipped with a bed, table, chair and wardrobe.
- Daylight: All detention rooms have windows with daylight.
- Health and psychological care
Detainees in the Glückstadt deportation detention centre have access to health and psychological care. A doctor and a psychologist are available to the detainees.
