Düsseldorf Prison: Modern penal system covering 125,000 square metres

With 850 places, Düsseldorf Prison is one of the most modern and largest prisons in North Rhine-Westphalia. Opened in 2012, the facility is located on a 125,000 square metre site in Ratingen and offers inmates modern accommodation, mainly in single cells. With construction costs of around 190 million euros, the facility is the largest investment in the North Rhine-Westphalia prison system in more than 60 years.
