Suhl-Goldlauter Prison as Thuringia's central transport facility
The Suhl-Goldlauter correctional facility (JVA) on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest was opened in 1991 and has since provided space for 282 male prisoners in closed (262) and open (20) detention. The four- to five-storey facility is characterised by modern infrastructure and high security standards.
As the central transport facility in Thuringia, the Suhl-Goldlauter Prison is responsible for transport within Thuringia. This means that it is responsible for transporting prisoners between prisons in Thuringia. The Goldlauter Prison has specially trained staff and modern transport vehicles that meet the high security requirements. In addition, the Goldlauter Prison also serves as the Thuringian hub for nationwide prisoner transport. Prisoners from other federal states who need to be transported to prisons in Thuringia usually pass through the Suhl-Goldlauter Prison.

Modernisation with HSL-C high-security locks from STUV
In 2023, as part of maintenance measures, the detention room and pass locks used for decades at the Suhl-Goldlauter prison were replaced with modern locks from STUV's HSL-C system. The HSL-C system is an innovative locking system that was specially developed for the dimensionally accurate replacement of old locks in existing correctional facilities and meets the highest security requirements. They were installed in various doors and gates:
- Passage door
- Holding room door
- specially secured detention room door
- Outfield goal
- Inspection flap
