Diez high-security prison: modern accommodation for dangerous offenders
A new building for preventive detention was constructed on the grounds of the Diez preventive detention centre in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2013. The €19.5 million building can accommodate up to 64 male prisoners in preventive detention and meets the latest security and accommodation requirements.
The prisoners in Diez live in modern single cells measuring 18 square metres. Each cell has its own bathroom and a small kitchenette. The cells are bright and friendly, offering prisoners the opportunity to live their lives as they see fit.

High security standards for the protection of the population
The Diez secure detention centre is equipped with state-of-the-art security technology to protect the public from dangerous criminals. This includes, among other things:
- HSL high-security locks from STUV: All doors and gates at the facility are equipped with HSL high-security locks from STUV. These locks are extremely resistant to tampering and break-ins, offering optimum protection against unauthorised access.
- Electronic monitoring: The facility is under video surveillance around the clock. In addition, the movements of prisoners in preventive detention are monitored electronically.
- Trained staff: The staff at Diez maximum security prison are specially trained to deal with dangerous offenders.
- Single rooms with private bathroom and kitchenette
